I am reading the Tao Te Ching, and taking daily morning walks in the woods to think. This blog is for the AH HA thoughts that I want to remember and share.
i agree that life seems to be all about material things somethings - its in every bit of advertising and its the foundation of every atmosphere we walk into. ("money makes the world go around", right?) i loved seeing all the signs this last weekend, capitalizing off the fact it was fathers day, encouraging people to "buy for dad!" at THEIR store. i think the basis of life is all about family and relationships though. we should keep all our effort there :-).
I completely agree. I think a lot of it has to do with tv and the media. When you see other people living and acting a certain way, it becomes extremely easy to allow yourself to be changed (whether you realize it or not). So many people I know have started acting differently after watching a certain movie or tv show - they act differently because they have been influenced by what they saw and experienced. If we are not careful, the luxuries of today become necessary tomorrow. We really need nothing other than shelter, food, water, air, and love. Everything else is, in a sense, a luxury. It is our job to sort through what is really a need and what is really a want, and what shows up somewhere in between.
Also- it terms of being influenced by what others have -did you know that there are studies on facebook depression? People who become depressed by facebook stalking? Comparing themselves to the appearance or possessions or social life of their facebook "friends."
